2 Factors That Lead To Failure Of Catalytic Converters

Catalytic Converters are specially design to fit your model of car. These are the ideal choice if you want to get the most out of your engine's performance. Locating at Converterplace, one that specializes in fabricating custom exhaust components is important, if you want to install a direct fit catalytic converter into your vehicle to improve engine performance.<br>http://www.converterplace.com/direct-fit-catalytic-converter

  1. 2 Factors That  Lead To Failure  Of Catalytic  Converters

  2. Catalytic converters can fail due to a number of reasons. Catalytic converters can fail due to a number of reasons.  The two main issues of these gadgets are poisoning and  clogging. Take a close look. 1)  Clogging Clogging ●Ceramic melting The surface of a direct fit catalytic converter is made of  ceramics.  Ceramic  can  melt  and  cause  clogging.  The  emissions  which pass  over  a  converter have extremely  high  temperatures,  leading  to  a  converter  heating  up.  Sometimes, the mixture of air and fuel leaving the engine  becomes  so  concentrated  and  passes  through  exhaust  system, and when it reaches at the catalytic converter, it  ignites powerfully beyond the normal temperatures of a  converter. This is how the ceramic catalyst melts. Other  reasons that lead to excessive fuel the system include  defective  oxygen  sensors,  faulty  check  valve,  inappropriate timing, sticking float, and corroded spark  wires.

  3. ●Carbon deposits If  oil  gets  into  the  exhaust  system  through  the  wrong  paths,  they  become  oxidized  and  result  in  soot  which  inhibits  proper  flow  of  gases.  Blocking  of  gaseous  pathways leads to raised backpressure which in turn forces  heat and hot emissions to go back to the engine cylinders.  If the engine sucks in the combustion fumes back to its  chambers,  the  subsequent  combustion cycle gets  invaded  and efficiency is reduced. This results in overheating of  engine and low power.   2)     Catalytic poisoning Catalytic poisoning If foreign matters penetrate into the catalytic converter,  they cause poisoning by reacting with the catalyst which  becomes  deformed.  A  altered  catalyst  cannot  oxidize  harmful gasses effectively hence more harmful fumes will  be emitted into the atmosphere. The converter’s exterior is  made of hard and expensive metal but the interior is very  brittle and thin (ceramic).

  4. The ceramic material is covered by a heavy mat that acts The ceramic material is covered by a heavy mat that acts  as an insulator and harbors the catalyst to keep it safe.  If the converter is subjected to heavy striking when the  car is moving, it can get fractures e.g. if a car is driven  over rocks and debris. The small fractures will clog up  the exhaust system. Poor  engine  efficiency  is  one  indicator  that  your  car  needs a new direct fit catalytic converter.
