3. My session agenda: • Part 1. Objectives and ways moving forward (15’) • present objectives of INCO-TRUST and BiC (Building International Cooperation, starts 1 January 2011); • Outline scope of the projects and how Brazil can cooperate proactively; • indicate what has been done already between EU and Brazil in trust and security • indicate an initial  roadmap of the main activities for the next 12 months, indicate how the audience can contribute / get involved.

6. INCO-TRUST and BiC Intl Co-operation in Trustworthy, Secure and Dependable Infrastructures Building International Co-operation for Trustworthy ICT (Jan. 2011) US Korea Canada EU Japan Australia

7. Project(s) Objectives • Involvement of Program Management (funding bodies) and Researchers is essential to success; • Prioritise vision and research directions in ICT Trust and Security, including alignment of work programs in Calls; • Facilitate technical & program level catalysts for engagement, collaboration and networking activities internationally; • Harmonise with International researchers dedicated results oriented workshops and sessions onTrust and Securitytopics to help shape future EC Calls

8. Project(s) Objectives: • Building strategy for long term international collaboration in trust and security research; • Reaching outside the EU channels to engage the wider community here; • Brainstorming Trust and security R&D challenges best addressed at a global level; • To identify the topics that have the highest impact, highest priority, highest chance of success and which are commonto most regions of the world;

9. Post Quantum cryptography (PQC) between leading Brazilian and European research centres (mainly student exchanges) Increasing governmental and industrial interest in seeing Brazil – EU collaboration Based on expertise in these topics, Brazil has already been identified for close coooperation with EU researchers in Security, Privacy and Trust. Current collaboration between EU & Brazil (from BR-EU WS Sept. ’09)

10. What kind of collaborations can be established?(from BR-EU WS Sept. ’09) Lightweight and Post quantum cryptography esp. for low power devices; Trust and Security of wireless sensor and actuator networks; how to measure and quantify trust in these environments; protection against physical attacks Information Security Management for Large Scale e-Government. Identity management and provisioning; application – oriented protocols; Security and privacy – lot of work in the EU about this (eg. Minimum disclosure, data minimisation) and it could be very complimentary with Brazil; Panelists agreed there are certainly additional research topics that could be further explored between Brazilian and EU researchers.

This event outputs were used to form a basis of the current EU-Brazil call of the FP7 Work programme launched last week in ICT 2010 More information available at:http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/ict/ According to the speaker at the EU-Brazil networking session at ICT 2010, a future EU – Brazil Information day is being planned for later to be held in Brazil (dates TBD). Mechanisms can be used to set up EU & Brazil collaborations

13. Roadmap of next year and how Brazil contributes: • Feed results from ICT 2010 and this event into the EU-Global alignment report and recommendations of INCO-TRUST; • BiC starts 1st January 2011 but there has already been active BR-EU involvement already; • BiC BR-EU workshop in Brazil – we have put in a workshop proposal to IWT 2011 to be held in Rio on 3-5th May 2011 • BiC EU–Global Trustworthy ICT event mid 2011. ICT 2010 and this event EU – Brazil Activities EU-Global Trust and Security Alignment report will feed into INCO-TRUST recommendations report. 17. Why a Broadband Access Plan is important in Brazil North region 13,45% North East 4,00% South-east 23,81% Center-west 20,45% South 21,33%

18. What are the main challenges? For digital inclusion, citizens MUST TRUST the environments : this cannot be based solely on technology , a trusted system should incorporate technological, social and legal guarantees. Solutions that are globally relevant will have the greatest impact and hence the longer benefit  international cooperation is mandatory

19. Trust and Security : Goals • The development of trusted communications infrastructures ( consistent user access to services independent of cost, location, service type, access device). • The development of application service environments providing secure and consistent access to functionality irrespective of access device, access network and service provider network. • Usability and accessibility regardless of educational, cultural and technical background

20. EU-Brazil Call Information (1/2) The Coordinated Call between European Union and Brazil was released on 28th September 2010 http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/dc/index.cfm?fuseaction=UserSite.CooperationDetailsCallPage&call_id=377The call was also released in Brazil under a call for proposals issued by CNPq http://www.cnpq.br/editais/ct/2010/066.htm (in Portuguese)

21. EU-Brazil Call Information (1/2) The main highlights of the call text are: 1. Call deadline is 18 January 2011 at 17:00CET;2. Maximum budget is 1.5M€ EU contribution (although there was a strong hint it would only be 1M€ EU Contribution since there is 5M € EU available & 5 topics;3. Part B of the proposal describes two projects in one document - the EU FP7 aspects and the Brazil aspects;    - The document is submitted to both authorities on the same day;     - The document needs to be submitted in English in EU/Portuguese in Brazil;    - The projects will share a common title and acronym;    - Both projects must score well to succeed; - a project without a Brazilian partner or vice versa without EU partner will not qualify;4. Two Part A's: the EU side will only contain details of the EU budget and partners / similarly in Brazil;

22. Any questions There is clear scope for Brazil – EU cooperation on Future Internet, specifically in the areas of ICT Trust and Security; There is now a Joint call for EU-Brazil, which is a very good opportunity for the research communities; We look forward to working together.
