Cloud Computing - Introduction

1. Blog 1: Horizontech.com CLOUD COMPUTING - INTRODUCTION No PC or internet user would be unaware of the term cloud computing. For the still unaware, I would like to take up the liberty of clearing that we here are not talking about making the calculations about when and where a cloud rains! That stuff belongs to weather department, and they know it better. We are talking here about cloud computing services which are omnipresent these days. But what cloud computing is actually? It is a technology that maintains data and applications through internet and central remote servers. In other words, cloud computing allows its consumers to use applications without installing them personally, and gives freedom to access their personal files at any computer which has contact to internet. Cloud computing technology makes computing much more efficient by centralizing data storage, processing and bandwidth. What cloud computing is not about is your hard drive. Because when you store your data on your hard drive and run programs from it, it’s called local storage or computing. Which means everything needs to be physically close to you, which also means you have access to your data only on that computer, and other computers in local network. That’s how computer industry is functioning from decades, working off your hard drives; so we’ll not be surprised if someone argues that it’s still superior over cloud computing. Google drive, yahoo, hotmail, and Gmail etc are some common examples of cloud computing providers. All you need is just an internet connection and you can start working anywhere. Here, the cloud (internet) serves as a server and email management software, and user can enjoy its benefits in any corner of the world.
