  2. London London is the capital of Great Britain and it is located in the south of England over the River Thames. It is the biggest city in Europe and one of the oldest village in the world. London had existed in ancient times in Rome and than it was called Londinium. London is inhabited by more than 15 million people from all over the world. Mr. Boris Johnson is one of the most important person representing the city as the City Mayor. London is divided into 32 districts, the most important of these is the City of London, the City of Westminster, Southwark and Lambeth. The City is a major cultural center where you can find many famous places such: Opera Covent Garden, famous orchestras (London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra) and theater (including the National Theater). London has a huge number of beautiful parks (Hyde Park, St. James Park, Kew Gardens, Green Park, Regent's Park, and many others). People often spend their lunch time there. You can see them sitting on the ground and having their sandwiches. This is typical picture of London lunch time. London cuisine is not very popular in the world as it is famous of being heavy and unhealthy. The traditional English breakfast consists of: bacon, eggs, toast, tomatoes, beans, sometimes oatmeal flakes, mushrooms or sausages. This breakfast is usually served in local pubs, shops, petrol stations and its called „early bird” or „morning deli”. Together with coffee&tee machines this kind of eating out is very popular among working people who rush to work every morning. There is not much left to mention about English dinner or great English restaurants as fish&chips take away is the English best know „fish”. Most restaurants in London are owned by emigrants such Chinese, Italian, Greek or others. You can find plenty of real foreign restaurants in emigrant districts such China Town or Polish Ealing Brodway. London transport is very extensive. There is a subway (the oldest in Europe, from 1863r), buses, bridges, rail and road (London Bridge), two of the largest international airports: Heathrow and Gatwick, train stations (Waterloo, among others, King Cross). There are nearly 500 bank branches in London. Two massive Mock-medieval towers bear the weight of the bascules which raise the central section to allow ships to pass. 7. Big Ben Big Ben is the name of a bell weighing 14 tons placed on top of 106 foot tower. He is regarded as the symbol of Britain. The bell that hangs on one of the two towers of the London parliament. Its building was taken shortly after the main part of the Houses of Parliament has been burnt. It was designed by two architects. The first of these was Charles Barry, the second - Augustin Pugin. This clock is the largest clock in Britain. Has four discs with a diameter of 7.5 m each, and the indication of the length of 4.25 m. Is it not impressive in size to the year 1858?

  8. Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located in the English county of Wiltshire, about 3.2 kilometres west of Amesbury and 13 kilometres north of Salisbury. One of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world, Stonehenge is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones. Archaeologists had believed that the iconic stone monument was erected around 2500 BC, although this has since been advanced to 2400-2200 BC. The surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which constitute the earliest phase of the monument, have been dated to about 3100 BC. The site and its surroundings were added to the UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 1986 in a co-listing with Avebury henge monument, and it is also a legally protected Scheduled Ancient Monument. Stonehenge itself is owned by the Crown and managed by English Heritage while the surrounding land is owned by the National Trust. New archaeological evidence found by the Stonehenge Riverside Project indicates that Stonehenge served as a burial ground from its earliest beginnings. The dating of cremated remains found that burials took place as early as 3000 B.C, when the first ditches were being built around the monument. Burials continued at Stonehenge for at least another 500 years when the giant stones which mark the landmark were put up. Stonehange Stonehenge itself evolved in several construction phases spanning at least some 1500 years. However there is evidence of large scale construction both before and afterwards on and around the monument that perhaps extends the landscapes time frame to 6500 years.
