1. J.J. Murphy City Manager - Belief in Public Service J.J. Murphy, City Manager of Hobbs, New Mexico, has been an exemplary public servant since he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from King’s College in 1993. He also has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Marywood University. He serves as a Major in the US Air Force Reserves, and has been a military officer for 17 years.

2. Experience Where it Matters J.J. Murphy, City Manager for Hobbs, New Mexico, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He earned his Master’s degree in Public Administration at Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania in 1998. Since then he has earned the Credentialed Manager distinction in the International City and County Management Association, and serves as a board member of the New Mexico Municipal Managers Association. Since he has moved to Hobbs, he says he is extremely proud of the significant economic progress the city has sustained recently. 3. Military Man J.J. Murphy, City Manager of Hobbs, New Mexico was originally commissioned as an officer in the US Air Force in 1997, when he was studying for his Master’s degree in Public Administration at Marywood University. He has served as a recruiter at the University of Notre Dame, and became a Vandenberg Air Force Base Spokesperson in 1998. He continues to serve as a US Air Force reservist today. Uncommon Experience J.J. Murphy, City Manager of Hobbs, New Mexico has worked as a Watch Supervisor/Controller in the United States Air Force Rescue Coordination Center since 2000. Murphy has volunteered for two post-9/11 deployments to coordinate search and rescue efforts. He helped with the first Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Recovery Joint Personnel Center in the US Southern Command in Haiti after the deadly earthquake in 2010.

4. Giving Back to his Country J.J. Murphy, City Manager of Hobbs, New Mexico was the president and CEO of Goals Consulting, LLC in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania until 2012. Before that he worked as the Deputy City Administrator of Wilkes-Barre and moved up to City Administrator of the town in 2004. He has helped coordinate over $250 million in new economic development projects between his time at Goals Consulting, LLC, City of Wilkes-Barre and the City of Hobbs. Serving His Community J.J. Murphy, City Manager of Hobbs, New Mexico, began his distinguished career in city management in 2002 when he became the Deputy City Administrator of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Murphy was promoted to City Administrator in 2004. He has served every city he has worked for extremely well, including Hobbs. His focus on economic development has benefitted the residents of both Hobbs and Wilkes-Barre.
