Theory • Announced his theory on April 30, 1987 • Announced that Cathode Rays were negatively charged particles called Corpuscles (things from which atoms were build up) • Have a mass of about 1000 times smaller than a hydrogen atom • Theory not accepted until 1899
Cathode Ray Tube • Thomson founded the electron with the cathode ray tube • He found that the (-_electrons were inside (+) charges (After Eugene Goldstein found atoms had a positive charge)
Theory • Thomson discovered the electron, the first subatomic particle • His work suggested that the Atom was not an “indivisible” particle like john Dalton had suggested
Theory • J.J. Thomson is also remembered for his "plum-pudding" model of the atom, which suggested a solid atom with positively and negatively charged particles evenly distributed throughout the mass of the atom.
