    1. 10 Safety Rules 1) Ask First Do not use tools that you have not received instruction on. We (teacher only) will take you to the machine and show you how to use it Most accidents can be prevented by asking first Ask questions if you are trying something new on a machine that you know how to use

    3. 10 Safety Rules 3) Always use the 4 inch rule and Stay away from the line of the cut!

    4. 10 Safety Rules 4) No Horse Play in the Shop NONE!!! A shop, of any kind is not a place to mess around. Horse play will help you find your way out of the program.

    5. 10 Safety Rules 5) Secure Long Hair, Loose Clothing, and Jewelry All machines have moving parts that if given the chance can snag long hair Especially bangs!!! Wear hair tie or a hat on backwards Always roll up long sleeves Know that machines can start or move at any time Smashed rings are hard to remove Shirt in Lathe story

    6. 10 Safety Rules 6) Use right tool for right job How can you always make sure that you are using the right tool? Never remove a guard from a machine Keep machine and work areas clean and clear of debris Put all scraps and cut offs in wood bins

    7. 10 Safety Rules 7) Report Malfunctions If the machine is make a strange noise or vibration, shut the tool off immediately and notify the instructor. Blades break We have the parts Don’t hide pieces Band Saw blades are unpredictable Sometimes blades are put on wrong You will learn to hear trouble

    8. 10 Safety Rules 8) Do not talk to or disturb others while operating machinery. A safety zone is a 6 foot space around machine Your first safety zone in school was a cross walk If you make a mistake it is OK

    9. 10 Safety Rules 9) Listen and Follow Directions I must know that what I am telling you is being followed To get a job you must be: Trainable A good problem solver Work well with others

    10. 10 Safety Rules 10) Cooperate with and Trust your classmates Get to know each other, your life might depend on them We all share the shop, we are a team! I need to know that I do not have to watch you all the time.
