    4. An old man, David, dies. Looking through his papers, his grand-daughter realises that he had fought in the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s. The events in Spain are shown in a series of flashbacks. David becomes dismayed by the infighting among the Republicans and returns home. David is buried. Was his struggle in vain?
