Introduction • Increasing use of thematic maps and other graphics • The first maps were produced by consultants • Increasing demands for production of maps in Statistics Norway • Looking for appropriate “off the shelf” tool • Statistics Norway decides developing PX-Map due to • price/performance • complexity of user interface • interfaces with statistical data / statistical databases (PC-Axis file format) MSIS 2007, Geneva 8 – 10 May 2007, Marianne Vik Dysterud - mvd@ssb.no
Introduction cont. • PX-Map is one of the contributions to the PC-Axis Family from Statistics Norway • PX-Map2 replaces PX-Map 1.07 and PX-iMap • joint source code • different GUIs for local version and Web version • more efficient maintenance and development • PX-Map2 is developed in .Net, C# and java script MSIS 2007, Geneva 8 – 10 May 2007, Marianne Vik Dysterud - mvd@ssb.no

Some highlights of PX-Map2 • Gives you an overview of your data instantly • Maps are made and changed on the fly • Choropleth maps and symbol maps • 2-color-scale around a user-defined threshold value • Language.xml – add texts in your own language • Default values for colors, language, classification type and others could be set in a configuration file • End user adjusting of colors for different functions are stored in cookies • Scrolling values gives an experience of ”animation” due to the dynamic SVG format • FREE of CHARGE Example DEMO MSIS 2007, Geneva 8 – 10 May 2007, Marianne Vik Dysterud - mvd@ssb.no
