    1. The Pearl Annotations Chapter Suggestions Imagery – Setting Details – Write specific lines in quotations of imagery used in the setting. Descriptive language – List descriptive language Symbolism – scorpion, songs of ___, caged bird. Explain the symbolism of each. Similes – List similes in quotations Personification – List phrases in quotation marks that are personified. Vocabulary – List vocabulary you do not know and define. Questions – Write down passages that make you question things that happen in each chapter.

The stars still shone and the day had drawn only a pale wash of light in the lower sky.” Descriptive language – “scurrying” - ran Symbolism – scorpion means evil Similes – “…her eyes as cold as the eyes of a lioness” Personification – “…the family song…rose to an aching chord that caught the throat.” Vocabulary – “pulque” – a light alcoholic drink from Mexico. Questions – Why do the beggars have such great perception of people.
