What is a Volcano? • Volcano is an opening or a vent in the surface of the earth through which magma and gases escape. • Magma is molten rock located beneath the surface of the earth.
Why Do Volcanoes Erupt? Volcanoes erupt because of changes in • Temperature • Viscosity • Dissolved Gases in Magma • Pressure
How Are Rocks Formed? • Sedimentary rocks – Small pieces of rocks are deposited by wind or water and compressed. • Igneous rocks - Magma trapped in reservoirs cools down. • Metamorphic rocks - Sedimentary and igneous rocks under high pressure and build up of heat change into metamorphic rocks.
