About Mrs. Collins • This is my fifth year teaching • I have taught at McFadden, Harvey, and Carr • I live in Orange with my family • I have three children: • Trevor is 12 • Taylor is soon to be 8 • Travis is soon to be 1
About Mr. Brincks • This is my 8th year of teaching all of which have been here at Carr • I have a wonderful wife named Deborah and a beautiful daughter named Rachel (16 months old) • We live in Lake Forest with our two cats named Maddie and Faith • I love all sports, especially surfing!
Our Philosophy • To facilitate learning experiences that produce autonomy, interaction, and choice in and outside of the classroom for all students.
Expectations • All students toactivelyparticipate in class. • All students toactivelyparticipate in their educational process.
Classroom Rules • Follow directions, be in assigned seat with materials. • No talking, raise hand. • Do not disturb other students. • Respect school property/clean room after class.
Materials • The following items will be needed for class every single day: - 2” 3 ring binder with dividers - pencils (2 or more) - pencil sharpener - erasers - colored pencils - 3 subject spiral notebook - Flash Drive (256MB or larger)
Lab Safety • To ensure a safe learning environment, all students will be instructed in science classroom safety, a safety quiz will be given, and the student/parent/guardian safety contract will be signed and filed at school.
Math Requirements • No calculators will be allowed. • Follow the Math Rules: - show all your work (step by step) - box your answers - write answers in the answer column
Grading Program • Students will receive three types of grades in every class each grading period: -Standards-Based Grades: this grade will be based on a limited number of common assessments that will be given to all students according to grade level and course. -Student Performance: this grade will be based on all other assignments that students are expected to complete for a given class( effort will also be calculated into this category). -Classroom Behavior: this grade will reflect each students’ behavior in class and will reflect factors such as participation, readiness to learn, cooperation, following class rules, attendance and punctuality. • Each of these grades will be based on a five-point scale with 5 being “Advanced” and 1 being “Far Below Basic”. • All this is explained in detail on page 6 of your agendas.
Final Notes • We look forward to working with all of you and helping you achieve in both math and science. • With your participation we can all have a great year where a lot of growth and learning will take place.
