  4. Valuation All birds and materials likely to be destroyed are valued for compensation. • Use farm records for numbers & ages • Take photos of exotic/rare species • Record likely materials eg feed, packaging

  5. Destruction Birds are culled using a method that maintains animal welfare & reduces exposure of personnel • Method – eg use of CO2 – see SOP • Maintain feed, water & environment • Risk assessment to be reviewed at start • Maintain records

  6. Disposal Carcasses & materials are disposed of using a method that maintains bio-security & reduces exposure of personnel • Method – eg composting in shed, disposal off site, disposal on site, burning • Limit numbers of people on site • Risk assessment to be reviewed at start • Maintain records

  7. Decontamination Buildings & equipment are decontaminated twice prior to stock introduction • Use an approved method & chemical • Use PPE • Risk assessment to be reviewed at start • Avoid environmental damage • Maintain records

  8. Pest Control Control pests that could transfer virus away from contaminated areas. eg rodents, insects, wild dogs • Identify relevant pests • Use baits in sheds prior to lock up • Co-ordinate eradication (destruction or trapping) of larger wild animals

  9. Auditing Audits check what we say we are doing against what is actually happening. • Check tasks are completed • Check records are completed • Improve effectiveness & efficiency • Improve induction & training programs • Check compliance to risk assessment & regulations • Maintain health & safety
