Good Reasons for Volunteering • To gain new experiences or learn new skills. • To put existing skills & knowledge into practice, (outside college environment). • To meet people & make new friends. • To build confidence & take on new responsibilities.
Good Reasons for Volunteering • A sense of value and achievement. • To do something special, enjoyable, or of personal interest. • To put something back into the local community. • Discover new potential career paths & enhance CV’s.
Examples of Volunteering Beauty Therapy
Examples • We volunteer at International Womens Aid Day – where we go out to various venues and demonstrate or perform skincare, make-up & nail treatments.
Examples • We are also involved in the local community, by volunteering pampering treatments, ( body massage, facials ) for groups of mothers with children who have special needs.
Examples • We go out to local elderly care homes, and perform treatments for the residents. • We volunteer in local hospitals, helping to de-stress staff who work in these environments, in addition to helping the patients.
Examples • We also are involved with helping various charities. For example, we have undertaken sponsored waxing of males, (chests and legs) to raise funds for ‘Children In Need’.
Examples • We have volunteered at the Ideal Home Exhibition at the SECC. Here we operated a Nail-bar during our October break. This was particularly useful in promoting awareness of Langside College: the courses available, and in terms of what we could actually offer to the local community.
Beauty Therapy • We enjoy volunteering very much as, it is an ideal opportunity for us to build upon our confidence, and helps us to practise and therefore consolidate our learning. • By volunteering, college-community links are strengthened, which promotes Langside College to be regarded as a good place to study.
Beauty Therapy • By providing treatments to help the elderly, stressed and vulnerable, we help them to feel better about themselves and build their confidence. This in turn creates positivity in people, and helps to sustain the communities in which they live.
