Charges Were Reduced To Misdemeanors and Then Dismissed. In looking at the original posts for this story, the publishers include fine print that the “archived article and information in the article may be outdated.” In this case, that is true. It’s rare that news sources update archived articles which is unfortunate. It is only the victims of shameful articles that benefit from the update and publishers rarely have the resources to put a reporter on an old story just to make a correction for 2 people. As sensational as the initial story was, in the end it turned out to be a false alarm. There have been multiple attempts to have the stories pulled or updated, but these requests have thus far been ignored. The public shaming has taken its toll on the couple as they’ve been tried and convicted int he “court of public opinion”. There’s little recourse for regular citizens in these cases. The public’s hunger for 24 hour news and scandal is very unfortunate and seemingly unending. Though this story is over 6 years old, the couple continues to struggle moving past this incomplete story.
