How Advisory Neighborhood Commission Aids Community Development? The District of Colombia or DC consists of 37 ANCs conducted with 8 wards. The Advisory Neighborhood Commission is also known as a local government body present in Washington DC. This is about including a range of programs and policies affecting the neighborhood. This includes some specific activities to affect the neighborhood that includes parking, street improvements, zoning, economic developments, trash collection, sanitation, and more. Here we are going to discuss all relevant parameters in more detail. History of ANC This commission was established in the year 1973 with Home Rule Charter and approved in 1974 by the voter referendum. Starting from the year 1979 these commissioners are getting elected for 2-year terms. ANC elections are generally non-partisan, in other words, these commissioners do not run as a member of the political party. They are not a part of any legislative or executive branch but rather independent in acting commission votes considered on regular public meetings. Role of the ANC

Each of the ANCs works as an advisor to the executive branch and DC Council to share information about residents. They utilize the connection among the different parts of district government and neighborhoods carrying perspectives and information. Under this law, district agencies are also known as executive agencies providing attention. This includes concerns and issues about the proposed decision. The role includes all proposed matters of district government policies including streets, planning, social service programs, recreation, health, budget, safety, and more. The ANC commission law states about the agency notify about proposed policies and actions as per the issues and concerns. The issues and concerns provide a great weight for the commission and assist in taking essential decisions. The ANC also allows non-profit organizations for projects and serves public purposes.
