National Progress ReportDenmark • Map Curator group is not existing • Hiskis and Geoforum are groups where mapcuratorship could be discussed • Geoforum is the national umbrella organisation for cartographic activities, they provide courses in GIS and have regular meetings on different aspects of cartography. • Geoforum organize each year Danish Mapping days with papers, exhibiton and workshops

Progress report • Few remaining map collections • Merging and closing of map collections • Full time mapcurators at The National Survey and National Library • Archives from survey moves to National Archive • Negoziation between National Archive and National Library on map storage and user service

  3. The Royal Library • Plans for automation of the last manual catalogues • Merging of former Science Univ Library and National Library • Geography collection and user service have been centralised • Negotiations on merging of Institute Libraries and University Libraries

  4. The Royal Library • New internal organization: • Merging of responsibility of maps in former science univ library • Maps, Print and Photograph collection together with Dept. Of Legal Deposit • Two missed atlasses returned from ”our” internal thief. • Map Collection responsibel for ICHC 2009

  5. Hiskis • Organization for historical cartography in computerized form • Coordinate digitisation projects • Give central access to digitized maps • Arrange seminars and workshops • Produce bibliographies and other information

  7. The National Survey • Closing of paper map production • Archives of older printed maps sold to private map dealer • Paper printing rights on licitation • Archives are scanned and then moved to the National Archive • Immense acces to digital historical maps on the homepage http://www.kms.dk/

  8. Acqusitions • No remarkable buys but a significant price record was made in january selling a Blaeu globe d. 68 cm for 2.5 mill d. cr. (app. 300.000 Euros) • 40.000 aerial photographs from RAF donated to the Royal Library from Basic Cover mission in may 1954

  10. Law on Legal Deposit • New law dec. 2004 • All digitized maps made public has to be delivered ( maps on internet included) • More details tomorrow

  11. Map Collectors Society • Society founded 2004 • Arrange visit and papers on map history • 3-6 meetings each year

  12. New products • DDO Land and By (ortho photomap) • Private produced maps and atlasses based on National Survey data

Exhibitions • Museum of National History in Aarhus – exhibition on map making 2004-2005 • Husum Map Exhibition from sept. 2006 on the danish cartographer Johannes Mejer • Several maps from the Royal Library have been in exhibitions outside the library • National Museum • National History Museum • German Museums in Berlin and Halle

Conferences and symposia • Odense workshop on historical cadastral mapping and GIS nov. 2004 • Roskilde :Historical Maps for Use in Planning two days may 2005 • Roskilde: Communicationlandscape and historical maps two days sept 2004 • All arranged by Hiskis • Symposia on town maps at Aarhus University arranged by research group

  15. New book • Kort som kilde en håndbog for kulturhistorikere og geografer af Peter Korsgaard • Sep. 2006 • A book about danish maps with explanation of the different map series and their usability for historians, geographers, archaeologist etc.
