What is dumplings? Chinese dumpling is one of the most famous foods in China, especially in the Northern part. They considered eating and making dumpling as a very important part of their New Year's Eve in Spring Festival. There are different kinds and types of dumplings that depends on what fillings are used. Here are the list of these dumplings:
JIAOZI Jiaozi is a kind of dumplings with a crescent shape and a pleated edges. It is usually filled with meat and vegetables. But, in some more cases, Jiaozi filling can be a shrimp or even a winter melon. It can be cooked by boiling, fried and steamed.
Gow Gees Gow gees is like Jiaozi, it is also made with vegetables or meat fillings. Jiaozi and Gow Gees are so much alike from the fillings and the shape of its wholeness, it also mean in Cantonese as the Romanization of the Mandarin.
HarGow You can easily identify a HarGow from the other dumplings. Since it has a smooth shiny skin and nearly transparent. Wheat starch is used in making HarGow dough, you cannot get the same texture if you use a flour and a water dough and a wonton paper.
Potstickers Potstickers are very famous for how it is cooked. Since the ways of cooking this is too pan-fried the first side and steamed the second side. In serving Potstickers, the pan-fried side is always shown at the top .
Siu Mai Siu Mai can merely distinguish in its unique shape compare to other dumplings. The shape show alike with a basket and a cup and the filling showing on its top. It is traditional to be filled with meat or prawns. It is normally wrapped in a circle cut wonton wrappers.
Steamed Buns This type of dumplings are called as buns since its unique design shows as the filling meat or seafood are wrapped wholly and gather up into several folds for steaming.
