  8. Basic terms • Immersion-Immerse • From Latin immergere; to plunge or dip into a liquid, or involve deeply • Teach school subjects in a target language • Francophone • Native speaker of French • Anglophone • Native speaker of English in a area where two official languages exist

  9. 3 Types of immersion • Early (total) immersion • Entirely in French; from kindergarten • English is introduced in grade 2, 3 or 4 • At the grade 6-8, approximately half the school days is in French and half in English • (Core French)
