  2. Surgery that takes long hours poses a lot of stress to the body of the patient and may cause some discomfort, pressure ulcers and muscle pressure. The key limitation of these risks lies in the Operating Room (OT) table, on which patients are placed to perform procedures on. Some of the major products which find its relevance in increasing patients comfort and safety during circuitous surgical procedures include; OT table mat, head rings, prone position gel pads. The Role of OT Table Mat The OT table mat is one of the necessities in the operating room environment. It is intended to consist of a solely cushioned surface for a patient and this would help a lot in weight distribution. This helps to decrease the point pressure on such regions like the spinal column, hips and the shoulders. People have to stay in one position for a long time during complicated surgeries and thus experience pain, bruising and potentially more serious issues such as pressure sores. All these risks are however mitigated through the use of high quality OT table mat, since they help to create an intermediate barrier between the mucous membranes/ skin of the patient and the hard unyielding surface of the operating table. The material the mat provides frequently has a memory foam or gel upholstery layer to minimize pressure and conforms to the individual’s body. This cushioning is important in order to lessen pressure on the skin and tissues as well as help rejuvenate circulation and avoid worrying rubbing of skin. Moreover, some mats with an aesthetic appearance are specifically made to be washable thus hygiene and sanitation in a neat environment is always observed.

  3. Head Rings for Enhanced Comfort The head ring is another important part in decreasing the level of discomfort commonly associated with head, neck and facial surgery. Laying up patients for these surgeries, their head should equally be well placed to avoid straining the neck and spine area. Ahead ring offers good support but is free from pressure on the patient’s head, thus offering head immobilisation during the procedure. For instance, if the patient is positioned in a prone position (face down), then the head ring does ensure that the head rests at a slightly elevated angle and is well supported so there is no way that air can be blocked or pressure applied on the face and eyes. Through proper adjustment and support, a head ring reduces the chance of a patient and visitor experiencing pain or injury due to wrong posture commonly caused by long and uncomfortable positioning throughout surgeries. Prone Position Gel Pads for Safe Positioning In particular, for surgeries that involve positioning of patients in the prone position that is on their stomach, gel pads are important. The prone position gel pads are designed to reduce pressure between the skin and the bed on areas such as chest, abdomen and pelvic region that are likely to feel discomfort or even have the tissue damaged in long surgeries. These gel pads are soft but have sufficient firmness to provide cushioning to bony structures that may be subjected to heavy pressure which may otherwise cause formation of pressure ulcers or nerve injury. They also afford rigidity and arguably this is what assists in maintaining the patient in the right surgical position firmly. This positioning is quite crucial during spine, neurosurgery, or orthopedic procedures because the positioning used determines the required alignment that is needed for the best results.
