  1. What are childhood speech disorders?

  2. Speech impediment occurs when your child is unable to speak. Communication problems include speech impediments and language impairment. Many children will experience temporary delays in speech and language development. Most will eventually catch up. Some will continue to have difficulty with communication development. Speech impairments face difficulty making sounds due to pronunciation, good speech, phonology, and voice problems. These problems are usually related to physical, motor, neurological, emotional, or mental health.

  3. Language disorders occur when people have difficulty expressing the meaning of what they want to say. Common to children, these problems can cause low vocabulary and difficulty articulating complex sentences. Such disorders may indicate difficulty in understanding school subjects or adopting new words, or they may be related to learning disabilities such as dyslexia. Language disorders can also involve language difficulties, when people have difficulty understanding the messages others are trying to convey. A child with a speech impediment can't pronounce all the sounds of speech in words. For many children, the cause of speech impairment is unknown.
