Our Energy Picture Today 86% of our energy consumption is in the form of fossil fuels we import 32% of our TOTAL energy requirements however, we import 69% of our petroleum or oil requirements we consume 20 million barrels of oil a day, and 7.3 billion barrels per year (ANWR holds an estimated 7.7 billion barrels, or 1 year supply; a 3 mpg increase in average fuel efficiency would save that much in 6 years) renewable energy makes up only 6% of our energy use, mostly hydro the industrial sector is the largest consumer of energy, followed by transportation almost all of the coal we consume goes to electric power generation almost all of the oil we consume goes to transportation
