I WILL LET JEHOVAH TEACH ME REGARDING PARENTS AND CHILDREN • The parent-child relationship can be one of the greatest blessings or curses in your life. • More and more studies are revealing the awesome influence we have on one another in the home. • There is a need to learn some basic guidelines that can help both to make this a blessing. • It is summed up in the memories our children have of their mother and me with regard to:
A NAME • A good name is important (Proverbs 22:1; Ecclesiastes 7:1) • Our children deserve to be left a good name • They know we worked at our marriage • We filled the roles we chose • We were fair, decent and honest in our community • We gave our children what they need and deserve: OUR TIME • We had our priorities right • People had respect for us
A CHRISTIAN HOME • The influence of a good home is powerful (Luke 15:16-17) • A Christian home consists of: • The trio of God, husband, wife • An understanding of our roles • An open Bible • Devotion to God • Mutual communication • True love and commitment
A CHRISTIAN HOME • There are grave dangers • They can all be met head on and defeated • Satan’s goal for your home is…TO GET IN! • Keep Satan out by what you choose to do today
A SEPARATED LIFE: ABRAHAM • It is a useful life • It is the only happy life • It brings access to God’s throne • It secures the presence of God in the home • It provides a blessing for future generations • It has a glorious ending
A DAILY EXAMPLE • They will get an example from us: What shall it be? (Acts 10:38; Proverbs 4:1) • Don’t do what you don’t want them to do • Don’t say what you don’t want them to say • Don’t live by principles that you don’t want them to follow • The Goal: Will the circle be Unbroken?
A DAILY EXAMPLE • Principles and guidelines • Think about the parents God chose for certain children: • Samson • John the Immerser • Jesus • We must BE what we want our children to become • They can see through every disguise
A DESIRE TO KNOW THAT WHICH IS GOOD (Luke 2:52) • With respect to wisdom • With respect to stature • With respect to favor with God • With respect to favor with man
A STRONG FAITH • The principle: Romans 10:17 • The command: Deuteronomy 6; Ephesians 6 • The example (Matthew 6:33) • The importance: It is in the home that the battle for faith in God is won or lost (as a general rule) • The dangers are many
AN APPRECIATION OF THE BEAUTIFUL • There is much that is beautiful • In nature • In human beings • In learning • There are reasons for this (Psalm 19:1; 14:1)
AN APPRECIATION OF THE BEAUTIFUL • There are examples of it • The beauty of faith as seen in Abraham • The beauty of patience as seen in Job • The beauty of purity as seen in Joseph • The beauty of meekness as seen in Moses • The beauty of boldness as seen in Elijah • The beauty of faithfulness as seen in David • The beauty of earnestness as seen in Paul • The beauty of love as seen in John • The beauty of all as seen in Jesus
CONCLUSION • Is your house in order? • Your name • Your Christian home • Your separated life • Your daily example • Your desire to know that which is good • Your faith • Your appreciation of the beautiful
