How will you sustain this Innovative Program post RttT? • AVID is an extremely cost-effective solution that embeds sustainability into a school through the methodologies and professional development that become part of the school culture. • Implementation costs are frontloaded during the first three years of implementation so that sustaining the program in the long run is affordable. • Funding sources can be used to sustain AVID, such as Title I, Title II, School Improvement Grants, GEAR UP, and other local dollars. • AVID Center helps to sustain the program by providing member schools with: • Divisional training events • Ongoing Site Team Support • Annual Certification Process • Ongoing technical assistance from Program Managers and consultants

Section C - 8Questions Addressing Innovation Selected 8. How will the implementation of this Innovative Program increase college and career readiness of all students? • The AVID College Readiness System was designed to increase the college-readiness of all students in a school. AVID works because it: • Accelerates under achieving students into more rigorous courses • Teaches academic skills not targeted in other classes • Provides intensive support with in-class tutors • Creates a positive peer group for students • Develops a sense of hope for personal achievement gained through hard work and determination • In Ohio AVID schools, 99.2% of AVID students are enrolled in a “College Prep” track of courses. • For more information, refer to the AVID Fact Sheet, AVID Innovative Programs Symposium 31011 presentation, and www.avid.orgData and Results
Section C - 9Questions Addressing Innovation Selected 9. Identify a timeline to achieve a successful implementation. AVID has adapted its standard implementation timeline for a quick start in Ohio. April - June: AVID divisional staff work with schools to prepare for implementation in school year 2011-2012 July - August: Summer Institute Training September: AVID Elective Begins Please see AVID Implementation Planning Guide for details.
Section C - 10Questions Addressing Innovation Selected 10. Why should your LEA/school be awarded an Innovative Programs grant? • This is your chance to shine. • Tell them your story and the needs of your students. • Show your enthusiasm and commitment to AVID’s proven system. • Let them know why you believe in AVID to turn your school around. • Remember, the 41 lowest-performing schools may have priority for these funds, so emphasize this reality if it applies.
Budget Implementing AVID in One High School – New District [1] Summer Institute registrations are optional in Year 3. [2] Tutor partnerships with local colleges and nonprofits can reduce costs as the number of AVID elective classes increases. Middle schools with only 7th and 8th grades might not add a third elective class in year three so that tutor costs would be $8,640 for years two and three.
Section D - Budget Please include LEA Name, IRN#, and proposed Innovation Program information at the top of this table. Include a breakdown of annual expenditures anticipated in each budget category during each grant-year that equals the total dollar amount of the innovation program selected. • Salaries • Tutors • Continuing Staff Development • Purchase Services • Membership Fee • Summer Institute Fee • AVID Curriculum • AVID District Professional Service Fee – New districts only *Indicates this number may vary
