  1. The Community Journalism class is treated to distinguished guest lecturers such as Pulitzer Prize-winning former publisher Mike Maidenburg of the Grand Forks, N.D., Herald.

  2. Publisher John Walker of the ThomasvilleTimes explains the ins and outs of community journalism to the class.

  3. Jeff Brady, long-time publisher of the Skagway, News, is a UNC-CH grad and likes to recruit our students for summer internships at his seaside paper in Alaska. In January 2004 he came back to guest lecture the Community Journalism class while taking in a Tar Heel basketball game.

  4. The multi-talented Marty Ravellette of Carrboro is a class favorite when it comes to feature story interviewing topics. Born without arms, Ravellette owns and operates “Marty’s Hands-on Landscaping” with the chainsaw being his tool of choice. Yes, he cuts down trees with a chainsaw using only his bare feet. And he makes a pretty fine motivational speaker too!
