Essential Questions Algebra II By Mary Prince
Algebra II Standard • S-CP. 5 Recognize and explain the concepts of conditional probability and independence in everyday language and everyday situations.
Essential Questions • In what ways do Independent and dependent events differ? How are they the same? • What real life examples would be considered Independent? How would you find the probability of that event? • How does the equation for independent event probabilities differ from dependent?
Lesson Plan • Begin with short lesson on probabilities of events, and the equations for independent and dependent events. • Students will then move around the room visiting different stations where they will work with probability. At each station they must come up with either an independent or dependent example, find the probability of that situation. Students will then do do said event and record the experimental probability. Stations will include: • rolling die • pulling marbles out of a bag • Flipping a coin • Deck of cards.
