  1. Blog 2: Medicaldevicestore.com What Are The Three Steps Of Managing Medical Instruments? There are basically three stages for managing medical instruments; they are intra-operative, post- operative and pre-operative stage. The combination of these three phases is referred to as the instrument cycle. In pre-operative stage, the medical instruments are set and other supplies are assembled for the procedure according to the surgeon's preference. The medical instrument container must be unlocked and the surgical instrument sets removed from the container. Surgical instruments and the other medical supplies are collected and prepared for use on the back table and mayo stand. Critical thinking comes along with intra-operative stage and using the medical instruments involved in this stage are a complex task. The STSR must be able to predict or anticipate the needs of the patient or surgical team members. In order for you to be best at this, you will necessitate having a complete understanding of the patient and the surgical practices involved. It is important that the STSR must observe the progress of the procedure to attain required information. The surgeon may on occasion demand request by hand signals or verbally. The names most commonly used by a surgeon are a scalpel, haemostatic clamp tissue forceps, surgical scissors, free tie, etc. Hand signals work best because it keeps talking to the least. This is the reason why the patient is not given general anesthesia because he might feel awkward, so it's best to keep them in dark until the operation is done. Post-operative medical instruments mean handling all the steps of preparing the instruments for the use of surgery. These steps include decontamination, reassembly of the set, preparation for sterilization, maintenance and inspection, storage and sterilization. By just knowing these three steps, you will be able to maintain your devices.
