Define - Information: Dictionary and Thesaurus Link Synonyms or other related words:
Example Information: The pinto bean, are a member of the kidney bean family. It is an oval shape, tan colored bean that has darker brown spots of its shell. It's very popular across the Southern United States. It is also one of the cheapest bean you can buy. But that doesn't mean they are cheap in nutrition or flavor. They are deciduous and nutritious.
Information - Write a least three sentences about your problem.
Define – Hypothesis: Dictionary and Thesaurus Link Synonyms or other related words:
Example Hypothesis: If you use Grow Power fertilizer, then your plants will grow better.
Make a hypothesis about the problem you wrote. Remember to write it in an “If …., then…” form.
Define – Experiment: Dictionary and Thesaurus Link Synonyms or other related words: The experiment is the biggest part of the Scientific Method process. It contains 5 steps: List of Materials Procedure Variables Data Table Graph
Experiment Continued List of Materials: Here you list all the supplies and amounts you will need. Example: List of Materials 1. 12 pinto beans 2. 3 identical pots labeled: A, B, & C 3. one 2 liter bottle filled with water 4. one 2 liter bottle filled with water 50 grams of Grow Power 5. one 2 liter bottle filled with water 50 grams of Miracle Grow 6. meter stick, pencil, and calendar 7. enough potting soil for the 3 pots
Experiment Continued List of Materials: Write your materials list List of Materials 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.
Procedure: This is step by step instructions for doing the experiment. • Gather all your materials. • Label you pots: A, B, & C • Fill each pot with potting soil • Label each watering liter containers: A, B, & C • Liter A will be just plain water. Liter B will have water plus 50 grams of Grow Power. Liter C will have water plus 50 grams of Miracle Grow. • Plant 4 pinto beans into each pot. They should be buried about 2 centimeters deep. • Pour 50 milliliters of water into pot A with the water in liter A. Water when dry during the duration of this experiment with water in liter A. • Pour 50 milliliters of water into pot B with the water in liter B. Water when dry during the duration of this experiment with water in liter B. • Pour 50 milliliters of water into pot C with the water in liter C. Water when dry during the duration of this experiment with water in liter C. • Place all the pots next to each other so that they will get equal amounts of sun. • Watch and record the growth of the plant on a weekly bases.
Procedure: Write the step by step instructions for doing your experiment. • Gather all your materials. • _ • _ • _ • _ • _ • _ • _ • _ • _
Variables: The variables are split into 3 types: Dependent Variables- What are you testing Independent Variables- What did I change on purpose Control- What did I keep the same Dependent Variable- In this experiment, we are testing different fertilizers on the growth of Pinto beans. Independent Variable- The independent variable are the different fertilizers: Grow Power and Miracle Grow. Control- My control is Plant A. Plant A, will be water only with water. No additional fertilizer will be used.
Variables: Write your variables: Dependent Variables- What are you testing Independent Variables- What did I change on purpose Control- What did I keep the same Dependent Variable- Independent Variable- Control-
Data Table:This is a chart where you write down all of your data.
Data Table: Create a chart where you write down all of your data.
Define – Revised Hypothesis: Was your hypothesis correct? In the example experiment, my hypothesis was incorrect. Miracle Grow caused the plants to grow better than Grow Power. Write your Revised Hypothesis here.
These are the 5 steps of writing a conclusion. You will write them in a paragraph form. • Restate the problem • Restate the hypothesis and revised hypothesis • Restate and compare the data • State what you learned • State any further studies that you can think of dealing with this problem. Example Conclusion: In my experiment, I wanted to test which fertilizer would work the best. I thought that Grow Power would work the best. My hypothesis was incorrect. Data shows that after three weeks of growth plant A, with just plain water, grew 12 cm; plant B, using Grow Power, grew 15 cm; and plant C, using Miracle Grow, grew 26 cm. I learned that 50 grams of Miracle Grow mixed with two liters of water grew pinto bean plants better than plain water, and the mixture of water and 50 grams of Grow Power. Further study could be done using different plants, and or different amounts of fertilizers.
