Online Testing Overview Management Tools System Requirements • Testing Window: April 25 – June 1, 2012 • Reading and Mathematics grades 3 – 8 • Science grades 5 and 8 • Your school(s) has registered for one or more grade/content areas (check with your DAC). • Item types and estimated testing times similar to paper/pencil tests. • New Student Demos and Online Tools Training (OTT/Tutorials) are currently available for reading, mathematics and science. • Updated System Requirements posted http://www.k12.wa.us/Assessment/StateTesting/OnlineTesting.aspx

WA eDIRECT • Web portal used for the Washington MSP Online Administration • Used by District Technology Coordinators for the distribution of WA MSP Online Assessment software (INSIGHT), OTTs and Demos • Used by District Assessment Coordinators for access to Test Setup tools and Demos/OTTs • Used by DACs to set up additional users • Users granted access to WA eDIRECT will be notified of their access through DRC email • Permissions-based system 14

Downloading Test Engine • District Assessment and Technology Coordinators and District Security Managers (DSMs) received login information via DRC email • eDIRECT link: https://wa.drcedirect.com/ • Click on “Log On” in upper right corner
Downloading Test Engine continued • Under Test Setup/General Information the downloads will be available. • Windows, Mac and Linux installers • NOTE: Mac installation requires a reboot of each computer once download is complete • Local Caching Service (LCS) • Step-by-Step instructions posted on http://www.k12.wa.us/Assessment/StateTesting/ OnlineTesting.aspx
System Readiness Check • Runs as part of the installation • Can be run afterwards or on demand for debugging purposes
Software Updates • The student test engine is capable of automatically updating itself with the latest version. • There is an Automatic Update property that is set initially on the software installation, and can also be modified through the System Readiness Check application. 27
Software Updates continued • If Automatic Updates are enabled, the student interface software will check the version each time the application is started. • If an update is necessary, it will download and install automatically. • The updates do not require administrative rights. 28
Software Updates continued • If Automatic Updates are disabled, the student interface software will not check the version when the application is started. • When a student tries to log into a test, they will be notified they are not on the latest version and will not be able to continue. • The software will need to be updated manually by getting the latest version from WA eDIRECT and reinstalling. • You can run the System Readiness Check application at any time to see if you have the latest version. 29
Local Caching Service (LCS) • A Local Caching Service runs on a server within your local network • Increases reliability by caching student responses when Internet connection fails • Reduces Internet traffic by caching test content • Use of an LCS is highly recommended whenever possible • Installed using an installation wizard • The installer requires administrative rights on computers • Updates are automatic 31
LCS Client Configuration • The student interface must be configured to use an LCS • An LCS can be configured during the software installation, and can also be modified through the System Readiness Check application 35
LCS Student Responses • Student Responses are sent to LCS if Internet connection is dropped • Responses will be automatically transmitted by LCS every 15 minutes • Responses can be manually transmitted 36
Online Guides and Manuals • Spring 2012 Assessment Coordinator’s Manual (ACM) • Includes step-by-step instructions for online administrations • Delivered in district by February 7th • Directions for Administration (DFA) • Online directions are included in the Spring 2012 MSP DFA • Provide information for test preparation and test administrator directions for testing day • Must be reviewed prior to online test administration. • Delivered in district in mid-March
Student Demos • Reading and Mathematics, grades 3 – 8, and Science, grades 5 and 8 • 20 minute interactive demonstration • Customized for each grade and content area • Required for all students testing online • Familiarizes students with the testing engine • Demonstrates login process, navigation, and tools • Encourage parents, School Boards, PTA’s, etc. to review
Online Tools Training (OTTs) • Reading and Mathematics, grades 3 – 8, and Science, grades 5 and 8 • Required for all students testing online • Students practice with username/passwords (no test tickets needed) • Students practice with different item types • Students practice with tools • Visual accommodations available • Encourage families to participate
