System Requirements for 2012 Management Tools System Requirements • eDIRECT (Browser requirements): • Most popular browsers: Safari 4.0 or higher, Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher, Mozilla Firefox 3.6 or 6.0 or higher • Accept cookies • Accept emails from the @datarecognitioncorp.com domain • Student Demos (Browser requirements) • Most popular browsers: Safari 3.1.2 or higher, Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or higher • Updated graphics drivers with screen resolution 800x600 • Flash Plug-in • Sound card to audio portion of demo

System Requirements for 2012 (continued) • Student Test Engine and Local Caching Service (LCS Optional) • Operating System: • Windows XP/2003/7/8/Vista • Mac OS 10.4 or above • Linux Ubuntu 10.04/Gnome 2.3 • Mac Processor: 400 MHz • Windows Processor: 700 MHz • Memory: 256 MB • Display: Monitors with a resolution of at least 800x600 • Connectivity: Able to connect to the Internet • Easy to Install • Testing engine and the LCS install in minutes • Several remote installation and shared environment solutions • Automatic updates

Which Set Up Should Your School Use? • Key elements: • Reliability of Internet connectivity • Bandwidth available • Number of simultaneous testers • A reliable T1 connection will support a non-LCS setup with up to 100-150 simultaneous testers. • DRC recommends using the LCS if testing more than 150 simultaneous users. • When in doubt, verify installation and infrastructure during administration of the tutorials.

  9. Preparing for Online Testing • Determine technology infrastructure available • Computers available for testing • Network, connectivity, bandwidth specs available • Possible implementations include: • 1-to-1 laptop initiatives • “Computers on Wheels” • 10” netbooks that support minimum specs (including operating system and display size of 800x600 or greater) • portable labs with Internet access • traditional computer labs • other quiet spaces with a “critical mass” of computers with Internet access

Student Enrollment Data Student enrollment data will be loaded from the March CEDARS file Some student data can be edited in eDIRECT Test Tickets with student login information are generated automatically New students can be added at any time; Test Tickets can be created for these students same day

  15. Lessons Learned from Spring 2011 Students should be very familiar and comfortable with the testing engine prior to the operational administration. OTTs and Student Demos are required for all students testing online.

  16. Paper or Online: When to Decide? Districts need to register schools that will be testing online by December 16, 2011. Online testing will be for the entire grade level in one or more subjects. As an example all 7th graders at a school will either be taking the reading test online or with paper/pencil, and (independently of that) all 7th graders at that school will be taking the math test online or with paper/pencil. Even with the whole grade level testing online, there may be a few students using a test booklet if required by their IEP.

Ask early! Encourage others to think of issues that could affect your success of the implementation of online testing. • Review other materials on our websites (listed at end of presentation), including FAQs.   18. Keys to Success (continued) • Release of eDIRECT: January 20, 2012 • District Assessment Coordinators will receive an email from DRC with username/password to access eDIRECT. • eDIRECT will have the Student Test Engine download links and the Student Demos links.

Keys to Success (continued) • Online Tools Training (Student Tutorials) and Demos • One for each grade and content area • Review as many times as desired • Encourage parents to review both demo and tutorial • Schedule time for all administrators, teachers and students to review demos and tutorials
