THE TORTOISE AND THE HARE
AN AESOP FABLE

3. 3 THE STORY There was a speedy hare who bragged about how fast he could run. Tired of hearing him boast,Slow and Stedy, the tortoise challanged him to a race. All the animals in the forest gathered to watch. The big day came and hare ran down the road for a while and then he stoped to rest crying out :”how do you expect to win this race when you are walking along at your onw pace? Hare went to visit his friends along the road an then he laid under a tree and fell asleep. Slowly and Stedy walked and walked and never stopped until he came to the finish line. The animals cheered so loudly for Tortoise and they woke up Hare.
Hare stretched and yawned taking his time after that he began to run again but it was too late.Tortoise was over the line. Tortoise had won the race.
4. 4 GRADE LEVEL Preschool Children: 4 to 7 years old.
This book will help teachers to work on Perseverance, get prepared before to do something, hard work and self confidence.
Activities will be done in learning centers. They will be planned by teachers and students.
5. 5 GOALS Students will respect differences among their peers and will put themselves in situations where they have never though they will make them.
Children will accept others as they are.
6. 6 OBJECTIVES Main Objective:
Learn to not give up when confronted to an obstacle or a difficult situation.
Try to always do and give your best in any situation or event.
Learn to not make fun of others and understand the importance of not putting friends down.
Recognize strenghts and weakness in themselves and in others.
Retell the story and make new stories using the perseverance principle and moral values identified as a main idea or topic.
Respect friends and help those in different conditions.
7. 7 THEMES TO WORK WITH CHILDREN How to be friendly and optimist as the tortoise.
How to avoid being rude and flashy as the hare.
Is teasing a good way to relate with peers?
Be disciplined and determined when you want to get something.
Listen to instructions and follow them.
Children work at their own pace.
8. 8 ACTIVITIES Children will listen to different versions of the story told by pictures.
Children will retell the story using their own words. .
Children will draw the secuency of the story.
Children will color, cut and organize a ditto with 8 pictures related to the story.
Children will recognize action words and will make sentences using some of them.
9. 9 MORE ACTIVITIES
Children will recognize and name other animals that are in the story.
Children will create their own story with different endings and characters.
Children will find similarities and differences between the different versions of the story.
Children will count the animals that participate in the story.
Children will investigate about animals habitats.
Children will dramatize the story.

13. 13 AESOP Aesop was born in Frigia in 620 bC. He was a slave.
He wrote many fables using animals as characters of the stories.
Fables are very simple and easy to understand. They have a moral and didactic sense. His philosophy is a lesson for adults and children.
