WEDDEL SEALS • Weddel Seals have 34 different calls. • They can be heard for more than 15 miles underwater.
BOTTLENOSE DOLPHIN • Bottlenose Dolphins live in groups called pods. • Both young and old dolphins play together.
BALD EAGLE • The Bald Eagle is our National symbol. • Bald Eagles are not really bald. They have white feathers on their head, neck and tail. • The Bald Eagle may use the same nest year after year. One nest was found that was 34 years old and weighed over 2 tons.
PENGUINS • Emperor Penguins can dive to depths of 1,500 feet. • Differences in their calls help to tell the difference between males and females.
COLOBUS MONKEY • The roaring of the Black and White Colobus Monkey is the most haunting sound of the forest..
Mountain Gorilla • Gorilla’s live together as families. • Playing with newborns and young Gorillas. • Looking for tender bamboo shoots to eat. • And fighting for their lives.
Zebra • The barking of Zebra’s can be heard across Africa. • They talk to keep in contact with each other.
Orangutan • Orangutan means man of the forest. • Their long calls echo back and forth over long distances.
GRAY WOLF • Gray Wolves live in packs of 2 to 12 animals. Wolves talk to each other by howling.
Black Panther • There is no one species called Black Panther. They are either a Leopard or Panther. • The Black Panther is most commonly found in southeast Asia.
African Lion • An adult Lions roar can be heard up to 5 miles way. • Lions are inactive up to 21 hours a day. • They hunt in the coolest hours of early morning.
BENGAL TIGER • The Tigers stripes help them hide in the shadows of tall grasses. • A Tiger can eat as much as 88 pounds of meat in one feeding.
HIPPOPOTAMUS • Hippos spend most of their day in water or mud. • Hippos have lips about 2 feet wide. • Baby Hippos are born underwater.
LEOPARDS • The leopards remarkable strength and agility allow it to climb trees. • In the trees they find a place to rest, a vantage point for hunting, and a place to hide their food. • Baby leopards are born blind.
Elephants • The Elephant is the largest living land animal on earth. • They use their trunks to smell, eat, drink and move things.
LEMUR • The Lemur live in the forest in Madagascar. • They eat mainly fruit, but also leaves, flowers and even dirt.
North American Black Bear • Bears are excellent climbers, good runners and powerful swimmers. • Bears eat both meat and and plants. • Bears eat insects, fruit, vegetables, honey and some meat.
chimpanzee • Chimps are one of the few animals that make and use tools. • They often feed by poking a stick in the ground and eating the insects off the stick.
Dromedary Camel • The Dromedary Camel can drink 30 gallons of water in just 10 minutes. • Camels store fat in their hump - not water. • Baby camels are born without a hump - they do not get a hump until they eat solid food.
