  1. INTRODUCTION The long-standing problem faced by India in harnessing power is the misuse, overuse and disappearance of resources. Thus emerged the need for solar, wind, biomass, geothermal and ocean energy that can help meet the fast-growing needs of energy in the country. A number of NGOs Foundations in India are playing a significant role in establishing renewable energy systems across far and remote regions.

  2. Navreet Energy Research and Information (NERI) An NGO based in Haryana, NERI actually work towards improving the livelihoods of farmers and rural households by utilizing clean and green energy technology and making use of organic farming.

  3. MILAAP A Bengaluru-based NGO Foundation, it actively works toward fundraising and donations. It had also initiated the light a 1000 households program in rural areas of West Bengal and Orissa.

  4. d.light AnNGO in Delhi, they design, manufacture and distribute solar power to the poor households in villages across India.

  5. Appropriate Rural Technology Institute (ARTI) To cut down the use of coal in cooking, this NGO in Maharashtra started an initiative to provide Smokeless Chulhas using Biomass to 500 households in Nandhal Village.

  6. Integrated Sustainable Energy and Ecological Development Association (INSEDA) NGO in Delhi, it offers biogas development in rural areas, solar lightning, cookers, the establishment of wind energy systems, biomass gasifiers and so on.
