Donald Trump says UN just a club for people to 'have a good time' • Donald Trump is questioning the effectiveness of the United Nations, saying it's just a club for people to "have a good time.“ • His post on Twitter on Sunday is the president-elect's latest comment since the UN Security Council voted on Friday to condemn Israeli settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem. • Trump says the UN has "such great potential," but it has become "a club for people to get together, talk and have a good time. So sad!“ • On Friday, Trump warned, "As to the UN, things will be different after Jan 20th," referring to the day he takes office. • Trump told The Associated Press last December that he wanted to be "very neutral" on Israel-Palestinian issues. 4. Trump pick for top spokesman post turns down offer • President-elect Donald Trump's pick for a key spokesman position has turned the job down, US media has reported, just days after his appointment was announced. • Jason Miller was named director of communications in the new Trump administration on Thursday, but in a weekend statement on Sunday, he said he wanted to spend more time with his family. • "After spending this past week with my family, the most amount of time I have been able to spend with them since March 2015, it is clear they need to be my top priority right now," Miller said in a statement, noting that he and his wife were expecting their second daughter. • "This is not the right time to start a new job as demanding as White House communications director.“ • Miller had served as a senior Trump spokesman, and the communications director's role is to shape the administration's media strategy. 5. Trump to shut charitable foundation • Donald Trump said he intends to dissolve his charitable foundation to resolve concerns about possible ethics conflicts. • "To avoid even the appearance of any conflict with my role as President I have decided to continue to pursue my strong interest in philanthropy in other ways," the president-elect said in a statement on Saturday. • Trump's move seeks to address just one aspect of his sprawling international business dealings that have led to assessments he will take office on January 20 with more potential conflicts of interest than any US president in history. • His foundation has been investigated by New York's attorney general since telling the Internal Revenue Service that it violated rules preventing leaders of nonprofit organisations from using a charity's money to benefit themselves or other "disqualified" people. 6. No way: Trump responds to Obama's claim of winning re-election • Donald Trump has responded by saying "no way" to outgoing US President Barack Obama's claims of winning a re-election, the media reported on Tuesday. • In an interview to CNN on Monday, Obama, who will hand over the White House to Trump on January 20, 2017, said, "I am confident in this vision because I'm confident that if I had run again and articulated it, I think I could've mobilised a majority of the American people to rally behind it." • Trump responded in a tweet saying: "President Obama said that he thinks he would have won against me...He should say that but I say NO WAY! - jobs leaving, IS (Islamic State), OCare (Obamacare), etc," Politico reported. • In the interview, Obama also said that many people around the country, including opponents, keep telling him that the vision and direction of his message is the correct one. 7. Trump defines UN as a 'club' for people to have good time • US President-elect Donald Trump has lashed out at the UN, describing it as a "club for people to get together, talk and have a good time". • "The United Nations has such great potential but right now it is just a club for people to get together, talk and have a good time. So sad!" Trump said in a tweet. • Trump's remarks comes following a decision by President Obama to abstain from a UN Security Council vote condemning Israel's settlements in the West Bank and parts of Jerusalem. The abstention marked an historic change in policy that permitted the resolution to pass. • Ahead of the vote, Trump had publicly asked the US to veto the resolution. • The Washington Post said Trump's tweet "signalled" that he would "likely challenge more than just the 71-year-old institution's approach to the Middle East once he takes office".
