  31. At least two million Muslims have descended on Mecca, in Saudi Arabia, to perform the annual Hajj pilgrimage - a religious duty that every sane adult Muslim is expected to do once in their lives if they can afford it and are physically able.

  32. The pilgrims retrace the steps of the Prophet Abraham and his wife Hagar. Wearing simple white clothes called "ihram", the pilgrims perform acts of worship - here praying together outside the Namira mosque on the plains of Arafat.

  33. Hajj also aims to promote the bonds of brotherhood between Muslims, showing that everyone is equal in the eyes of Allah.

  34. Policing one of the largest gatherings of people in the world is a challenge for Saudi authorities. This year they have installed a new light-rail system to ferry pilgrims between shrines in an attempt to manage the crowds.
