Why should YOU be a Vessel Examiner? • Recent research shows the concept of the Vessel Safety Check program is popular. • Our current VEs tell us—“if I ask boaters to let me do a VSC, they say yes.” • But many current Vessel Examiners are “maxed out”—we can’t expect them to perform more VSCs than they do now. • We need more “feet on the docks.” More Vessel Examiners = More Vessel Safety Checks!
Why should YOU be a Vessel Examiner? • New USCG “You’re In Command: Boat Safely” campaign will aggressively promote the VSC program. • We must be ready to meet the demand.
Why should YOU be a Vessel Examiner? • The U.S. Coast Guard needs you. • VSCs help keep unsafe boats off the water, and allow the USCG to devote more resources to its new marine homeland security duties.

Why should YOU be a Vessel Examiner? • You spent a lot of time becoming an expert on boating and boating safety—you might as well put that expertise to good use. • Staying current on VSC requirements helps you stay current on your own knowledge of boating and boating safety. • It’s fun to meet new boaters and see their boats!
Why should YOU be a Vessel Examiner? • The training period is relatively quick and extremely informational. • Maintaining VE status requires you to complete only 5 Vessel Safety Checks per year—probably less than three hours of volunteer service.
Why should YOU be a Vessel Examiner? • VSCs work. You might just save someone’s life!
