How non-destructive moisture meters work Non-destructive moisture meters work by using electromagnetic waves to measure indirectly the moisture content in concrete forms. These are portable devices that are handheld. Upon keeping this instrument in contact with the concrete slab and pushing a button, electromagnetic waves are released which travel through the concrete slab. Presence of moisture modifies the properties of these waves; upon returning to the device, the device measures the changes that occurred in the waves, and returns the corresponding values of moisture.
