This Black History Month, Clarendon Entertainment, Fuqua Films, and Microsoft proudly present a unique and provocative Program: FROM MARTIN TO TUPAC: POLITICAL ASSASSINATIONS that explores whether political assassinations of black activists is a policy of the U.S. government. The program examines the facts, circumstances and speculations surrounding the assassinations of such heralded figures as Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Alprentice “Bunchy” Carter, George Jackson and Fred Hampton. Through discussion and analysis, the program: FROM MARTIN TO TUPAC: POLITICAL ASSASSINATIONS also gives historical context to the current debate over the unsolved murders of cultural icons Tupac Shakur and Christopher “Biggie Smalls” Wallace. FOUR-HOUR PROGRAM: “FROM MARTIN TO TUPAC: POLITICAL ASSASSINATIONS” INCLUDES: • A FILM SCREENING of documentaries covering several political assassinations • A SYMPOSIUM featuring dynamic speakers from both sides of the assassinations debate • AN INTERACTIVE TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP

Our program is tailored to your needs and program producers will efficiently work with you for a professionally produced program. “FROM MARTIN TO TUPAC: POLITICAL ASSASSINATIONS” Benefits • Additional benefits offered include: • Students can display their creativity and knowledge as well as be a part of a debate on government corruption and unsolved murder cases. • An event for your campus during Black History Month that exposes students to Bunchy Carter, Fred Hampton and George Jackson, three historically significant yet relatively unknown activists. • Opportunity for substantial positive publicity for your campus and the department(s) hosting the program. “FROM MARTIN TO TUPAC: POLITICAL ASSASSINATIONS” Requirements • Tailored Program Fee • Hospitality for Invited Speakers • Reserve auditorium/theater/classroom • Video/Digital projection system, other equipment (microphones, pa system, screen etc), technical personnel, as well as venue prep and breakdown crew, etc. • Organize a promotions team to distribute and post event printed materials (flyers, posters, etc). • Promotion of event in campus media (newspapers, radio station, etc.) • Reserve table/booth in student union/student center or heavy traffic campus area to promote the event. • Obtain approval from campus departments for solicitation of event-related materials. Also need campus approval for distribution and posting of event flyers and posters on campus areas. • A central campus location (sponsoring organization’s office, etc) to receive and be responsible for advance tour items.

The film explores several possible theories on Dr. King’s 1968 assassination in Memphis, TN and includes interviews with Martin Luther King III, the late James Earl Ray, former Ray attorney Dr. William Pepper and a host of other important players in the investigation of the assassination. A Q&A with noted journalist and historian A. Peter Bailey follows. • The Murder of Fred Hampton – In 1969, Mike Gray and Howard Alk were filming a documentary about Fred Hampton, charismatic leader of the Illinois Chapter of the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense. Midway through production, Hampton was killed by Chicago police; Gray and Alk's crime scene footage, included in this gritty account, was later used to contradict police testimony. • Bastards of the Party – Actor, director and reformed Bloods member Cle Sloan traces Los Angeles gang culture from the "great migration" of Blacks to Los Angeles from the South in the 1940’s to the rise and demise of both the Black Panther Party and the US Organization in the mid-1960s, to the formation of what is currently the culture of gangs in Los Angeles and around the world. In chronicling the role of the Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI in the evolution of L.A. gang culture, the film introduces audiences to the legendary Alprentice “Bunchy” Carter, who led the Southern California Chapter of the Black Panthers and was gunned down in 1969 in an incident allegedly instigated by law enforcement officials. Antoine Fuqua produces • Biggie & Tupac – British documentarian Nick Broomfield investigates the murders of rappers Tupac Shakur and Christopher “Biggie Smalls” Wallace, the East Coast/West Coast rap rivalries and Death Row Records boss Suge Knight in this controversial documentary.

Explanation of Program Elements (cont’d) Symposium A presentation of clips from several documentaries will serve as a prelude to a symposium in which a distinguished panel of three filmmakers, scholars and journalists will debate the participation of U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies in these events and explore possible motives and political consequences. The potential pool of speakers may include (subject to confirmation): • Elaine Brown (author, singer, prison activist, former chairperson Black Panther Party for Self-Defense) • Reggie Rock Bythewood (screenwriter, Notorious) • Michele D’Acosta (producer, Biggie & Tupac) • George Tillman, Jr. (director, Notorious) • Keith Beauchamp (executive producer, Murder in Black and White/director, The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till) • Mike Gray (producer, The Murder of Fred Hampton) • A. Peter Bailey (journalist and historian) • Bernard Parks (former LA police chief; councilman representing the 8th council district in South Central LA) • Stephen Bingham (former defense counsel for George Jackson) • Frank Alexander (author, filmmaker and former Tupac bodyguard) Workshop Rounding out the program will be an interactive workshop where students and faculty will learn the methods of investigative journalism and documentary filmmaking.
