  2. Birth Date and Place • Born: October 31, 1860 • Place of Birth: Savannah, Georgia • This is Daisy, at age 10

  3. Problems with Hearing • Juliette had chronic ear infections as a child, and had lost the hearing in one ear. At the age of 26, she lost the hearing in the other ear when a grain of rice was accidentally thrown into her ear at her wedding.

  4. Contributions to Fame • Juliette was the founder of the Girl Scouts of America, after meeting the founder of the Boy Scouts, Sir Robert Baden-Powell, in 1911. • On March 12, 1912, the first troop of 18 girls began the organization now called the Girl Scouts of America.

  5. Interesting Facts • In 1948, there was a stamp created for her. • During World War II, she had a ship named for her. • In 1979, she was inducted into the Women’s Hall of fame. • On October 14, 2005, a bronze statue of her was unveiled in Washington, DC.
