  2. IMPLANT LOOSENING AND WEAR The implant may occasionally become slack. Sometimes the cause of a loose implant is not immediately apparent. Orthopaedic physicians think that frequent high-impact activities, a large body mass, and wear to the plastic lining may cause your knee replacement to wear out more quickly and cause implant loosening. Younger patients who have knee replacements run a considerable risk of having their knee replacements loosen up.

  3. INFECTION It's possible for bacteria to stick to the surface of your implant when they get into your knee. This infection may start while you are still in the hospital after your initial surgery or it may start years later.
