There are in the market many types of cement are available. But always choose the waterproofing cement. It fights against the water. Here get the Importance of the Waterproofing cement.

INFORMATION • Dampness is one of the biggest challenges a builder deals with. • There are many ways damp and moisture can creep into a house and the builder has to anticipate and see that none of this damages the structure, the walls and most critically, the electronics. • But waterproofing has a much more essential function in construction, one that will determine the very integrity of a structure. • This is why solution like adding water proofing agent for cement during construction become so important
IMPORTANCE OF WATER PROOFING • The importance of water proofing a structure should be obvious. • But the common man rarely ever realizes how critical it is or how layered this waterproofing must be. Water can filter in from many sources, be it rain or overhead tanks. • In fact the most common leakages come from the pipes and plumbing within the house. • This isn’t just a nuisance that spoils your wall with damp patches. There are serious consequences of water seepage.
Continue… • Infiltration of water can damage the walls, weaken the structure, pose a threat to the electrical and plumbing layout and cause irreversible damage. • If the seepage is coming from outside, by the time you notice it inside your home, the damage to the exterior is already done. • For instance, roof insulation that is soaked will never quite recover. Eventually the roof will start to decay. • Similarly, water in the walls will start rusting the underlying steel supporting structure. • Moisture will cause expansion of reinforcing bars causing in spelling of concrete. • To safeguard against this, builders use multiple measure, such as adding water proofing agent for cement.
WHY WE HAVE TO WATER PROOF CEMENT • When we use the cement as part of concrete, waterproofing is critical. • Concrete is made by mixing water, cement, sand, aggregate and water. It’s surfaces is rich in oxygen, which makes it hydrophilic in nature. • It means that the surface reacts with the water, forming hydrogen molecules. It absorbs the water. • In case of concrete one has to keep in mind that hate is one of the main ingredients when making concrete — from its mixing too curing. • While it is important in the making of the concrete, the finished product does not contain any water molecule. • Any penetration of water can cause irreparable damage. • So, typically, once the concrete is set, it is followed by a curing process where the water content is evaporated.
Continue… • However, the evaporation of water leaves void inside the concrete. • Hence, good concrete mixtures use the minimal possible water in building concrete. • The low water to cement proportion reduces the porosity of the concrete. But given the porosity of concrete, it is not possible to make it completely waterproof. • As explained above, the capillary action will see that water seeps through the pores of the concrete. So, how do we solve the problem? By adding water proofing agent for cement.
FUNCTION OF WATERPROOFING AGENT • A waterproof agent has three main function: • Reducing the size, number and continuity of capillary pores. This reduces the penetration of water. • Blocking the capillary pores. • Using hydrophobic materials with the capillary pores. This again reduces the absorption of water by capillary action. • What the waterproof agent effectively does is create a barrier to the movement of water. • It gives the cement or concrete water resistance from inside instead of relying on externally applied solutions like coatings or sealers, which are disruptive, expensive and rarely as effective as waterproofing the structure.
Continue… • While external solutions provide a barrier to water (and many of the modern solutions are excellent), waterproofing ensures that we have created a structure that is strong from within. • It is also more economical. If we are considering only one waterproofing solution, adding a water proofing agent for cement is the most effective method. • Using sealants and coatings are usually considered as secondary or extra precautionary measures.
WATERPROOFING AGENTS • Water proofing agents for cement are made of hydrophobic materials or materials that repel water. • This includes substances like petroleum products, oils, crystalline materials and certain chemicals that can block or restrict the penetration of water. • Some substances form an extra layer, while some can restrict or repel the movement of water. • These simple agents determine the very integrity of our home.
