  2. Friday October 19 • Meet near the flag pole in front of Old Main • Bus departs at 7 am sharp! • Drive through Phoenix, America’s 5th largest city (population 5 million) • Sunset rest area for 15 minute break around 9:15 am

  3. Sedona! (Elevation 1300m) • Arrive 11:30 am for 1.5 hours • Restaurants & Gift Shops

  4. The South Rim (2000 m) • Arrive at Mather Point for 30 minutes

  5. Grand Canyon Village • Map • Market Plaza – buy snacks, lunch food, plenty of water (3 liters) • Yavapai Lodge • Fridge in room

  6. Sunset at Hopi Point • Settle into rooms • Take shuttles to Hopi Point • Sunset at 5:45 pm • Evening to relax!

  7. Saturday October 20 • Sunrise at 6:40 am • Yavapai point – 20 minute walk

  8. Breakfast & Day Activities • Hotel Cafeteria – Eat a lot!!! • Hike, shop, visit art galleries, relax • Visitors Center • Bright Angel Trail – down into the canyon! Do not pass Indian Gardens (7 hours RT)

  9. Rim Trail • Combination of FREE busses and walking • Several kilometers long • Provides spectacular views • Does NOT enter the canyon • Flat terrain

Safety • You must drink 2 to 3 liters of water! • Bring sun block incase it is sunny • Bring an umbrella (sun & rain) • If you take Bright Angel Trail into the canyon, it gets warmer as you go down! (30C) • For every 1 hour you walk down, it takes 2 hours to walk back up. • Do not wear sandals, flip flops or open-toed shoes. The ground is hard and rocky. • Wear socks

  11. Safety • Please observe all posted signs and warnings in the park and on the trails. • Stay within the marked boundaries of the walking trails and the viewing sights. • Stay away from the edge! • Do not hike ALONE!

  12. What to Pack • Comfortable clothes for cool day weather and cold night temperatures • Bring sweaters and a jacket for night! • Grand Canyon Village and Rim Trail • Day: 15 to 18C, sunny, maybe a shower • Night: -5 to 0C, cold, breezy • Comfy shoes, warm hat, umbrella

  13. What to Pack • Comfortable shoes, socks • Camera and plenty of film • Money for meals, gifts, souvenirs • Not too many clothes – we will only be gone for 2 nights!

  14. Dinner • There are several cafeterias and restaurants in Grand Canyon Village • There is also a deli and a supermarket near the Yavapai hotel

  15. Sunday October 21 • Meet outside hotel rooms at 8:45 am • Leave card keys in room on bedside table • Bus departs at 9am • Museum of Northern AZ 10:30-11:30 • Fast food lunch in Camp Verde: McD’s, BK, Subway, KFC, NOT Denny’s! • Sacaton Rest Area in late afternoon • Return to UA around 6 pm
