The Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA) reported that oilmeals exports rose 36% year over year to 2.89 lt in October 2023 from 2.13 lt in October 2022. According to BV Mehta, Executive Director of SEA, this growth was facilitated by a resurgence in the export of soyabean meal and a sharp increase in the export of rapeseed meal. Soyabean meal Soyabean meal He mentioned that price competitiveness has contributed to the rise in Indian Soybean Exporters, citing the rise in demand for Indian soyabean meal abroad. In April through October of 2023–24, India exported 6.73 liters of soy meal, compared to 1.61 liters during the period in the previous year. As of November 16, the price per tonne for soybean meal (ex-Kandla) was $570, whereas the price per tonne for soybean meal from Argentina (CIF Rotterdam) was $606. The recent increase in Indian soyabean meal exports has been attributed to this price competitiveness. He claimed that the majority of Indian soyabean meal's customers are in South-East Asia where India has a logistical advantage and has
an ability to supply in small quantities. He claims that because Indian soyabean meal is non-GMO, it is preferred by certain European countries and the United States. Rapeseed meal Rapeseed meal India exported 15.13 lt of rapeseed meal from April to October 2023-24, up from 13.39 lt the previous year. At $325 per tonne (f.o.b. India), he claims India is the most competitive supplier of rapeseed meal to South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, and other Far-East countries. Rapeseed meal (ex-mill) from Hamburg was quoted at $335 per tonne. In 2022-23, India exported 22.96 lt of rapeseed meal. This was the highest level since India began exporting rapeseed meal, he said. Ricebran ban hurting However, the ban on exporting de-oiled ricebran, according to Mehta, is harming the processing industry. India exports approximately 5-6 lt of de-oiled ricebran per year, primarily to Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Thailand. During April-July 2023-24, India exported approximately 1.5 lt. He stated that the Union government prohibited the export of de-oiled ricebran from July 28 to November 30, and that this decision has had a significant impact on domestic ricebran processors. Encouraging the government to remove the ban on exporting de-oiled ricebran and not to prolong it past November 30, SEA has sent representation to Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying. Compared to 1.89 lt the previous year, India exported 2.13 lt of castorseed meal in the first seven months of 2023–2024. Thailand brought in 4.41 lt (3.90 lt) of oilmeals from India in the first seven months of 2023–2024.
