In this community, marriages are regarded as a combination of two people and not merely two people joining together as partners, but two families. Such marriages are mostly orthodox and Vedic and are highly respected as they are conducted by the Vedic culture. It is believed that such practices help to bring good things to the lives of the couple as well as their families, such as wealth, happiness, and spiritual development. Brahmin matrimony, therefore, starts with selection and this is a process that involves a rigorous scrutiny of the family of the prospective bride or groom. The quest for such resources in the past involved community contacts and references from families and relatives. But thanks to technological advancement, one can now find his/her suitable partner through online matrimonial websites and the list for the Brahmin community is large. These platforms invariably offer detailed bio-data regarding the client’s family background, education, profession, and horoscope which are significant factors determining the compatibility of the two likely partners. Kundli Milan is widely performed during Brahmin matrimony and is known as the horoscope-matching process. Cosmological compatibility is a requirement for a happy married life. To ensure the compatibility between the prospective bride and groom, their Kundlis are matched in all aspects such as health, wealth, and even lifespan. This practice has originated from the cultural belief that the position of stars and other celestial bodies determines the happiness of the couple and successful marriage arrangements. He must make sure that the horoscopes of both family members are compatible according to the experienced astrologers before going for the marriage proposal. Even the marriage ceremony in Brahmin Matrimony itself is very lavish usually lasting a few days and includes many rituals and ceremonies. Some of the significant rituals are Kanyadaan, where the bride is given to the groom by the bride’s father, and Saptapadi, where a couple walks seven rounds around the fire which is considered holy and each step is a promise made by the bride and the groom. These rituals are done in the fierce style enclosed with the chanting of Vedic hymns and mantras to seek the divine couple’s blessing. The mood is jovial, which is evident by family and friends attending to shower the couple with blessings and being joyful at the event. The post-wedding rituals also occupy a prominent place in the rituals followed in the Brahmin matrimony. These are rites meant to assist the bride in fitting into her new family and to introduce the couple to the rest of the families. They are the Griha Pravesh, in which the bride is ceremonially brought into the groom’s house, and the Satyanarayan Puja, which is a prayer for blessings for the couple. Such customs signify the importance of family ties, continuity of generations, and the religious aspect of the married life which makes Brahmin matrimony a Real cultural ethnicity with religious beliefs intertwined in the practice of this kind of matrimony.
