It symbolizes the coming together of two people, to be life partners, to look after each other, to be married, and to bear children to continue the family line. Now, the institution of Marriage has a fundamental concept of Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha in Hindu culture to live a balanced and vigorous life full of duties, prosperity, pleasure, and salvation.

Marriage in Hinduism is not a civil bonding but a religious one where it is called a samskara meaning a sacrament. It symbolizes the coming together of two people, to be life partners, to look after each other, to be married, and to bear children to continue the family line. Now, the institution of Marriage has a fundamental concept of Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha in Hindu culture to live a balanced and vigorous life full of duties, prosperity, pleasure, and salvation. The number of rituals related to Hindu matrimony is vast, and there is a considerable degree of variation based on the geographical area, community to which the couple belongs, and family traditions. Nonetheless, basic ceremonies, for instance, birth, marriage, initiation, becoming a parent, transition, and death ceremonies, are celebrated routinely. The wedding ceremony proper starts when the bride-to-be and groom-to-be officially agree to marry, known as Roka or Sagai Although the day itself is filled with much excitement, color, joy, and merriment, certain colorful pre- wedding functions are observed with great fun and zest. The ritual that depicts Hindu matrimony as a beautiful rite and a sacred event has always stressed the significance of marriage in Hindu culture. This is not only a symbol of love and devotion between two individuals, but also a seal of connectedness and integration of two different families. It is evident then that while the social statuses, economy, and media have evolved with modernization and globalization, the traditional fundamentals of Hindu marriage have still been preserved and uphold the religious and spiritual aspects embraced generation after generation. To sum up, Hindu matrimony plays an essential role in two individuals’ lives thus being one of the most important and sacred rituals in Hindu culture.
