Astrocast to spread awareness about satellite IoT solutions Swiss satellite communications and IoT solutions provider, Astrocast has joined the IoT M2M Council (IMC), the leading trade organization serving the IoT sector, to educate the industry on the benefits of next-generation LEO satellite communication. Astrocast will have direct access to 25,000 product makers (OEMs) and business users that use IoT solutions through IMC, which will span every vertical market and geographic location where IoT technology is used. With over 25,000 IoT corporate users, product makers/designers, and app developers as members, the IMC is the biggest association dedicated to the worldwide IoT market. Astrocast just launched a commercial version of its bidirectional satellite IoT service earlier this year, which aims to link IoT devices all around the world for usage outside of cell-based terrestrial networks. Agriculture and livestock, utilities, transportation, and
mining, all of which include remote areas such as mines, farmland, ships, and oil platforms – are among the industries targeted. “Only 15% of the planet is covered by terrestrial networks. Our global nanosatellite IoT network reaches areas that terrestrial networks can’t; and represents the future of IoT connectivity in crucial markets like maritime, oil & gas, agriculture, and environmental protection,” saidLaurent Vieira de Mello, Astrocast’s COO Fresh from recent funding by Rajat Khare’s Boundary Holding, Astrocast has been forming partnerships with various companies to spread their horizon and increase the range of their products. At the beginning of this year, Astrocast partnered with UnaBiz to develop an end-to-end IoT solution for asset tracking and monitoring. The collaboratively created custom-designed asset tracking and monitoring solution will be aimed at a variety of applications, including satellite-only and hybrid applications that use Astrocast’s direct-to-satellite network as well as other LPWA networks to send data. Astrocast also acquired IoT infrastructure company Hiber in May this year. Access to SatIoT, according to Astrocast, may revolutionize the global IoT business paradigm, allowing a slew of new, powerful applications to speed change and bring concrete benefits to businesses, individuals, and the environment. “We welcome Astrocast to the IoT M2M Council and look forward to hearing more about this new connectivity technology. LEO satellites are quickly becoming a very important extension of terrestrial networks, providing much-needed coverage to many rural or remote communities who have struggled with coverage in the past,” said Romil Bahl, President, and CEO of KORE and the IMC Chairman.
