These functions include protecting the user from heat generated from the suppressor, they mask against heat or optical mirages, they protect the suppressor from damaging nicks and scraps and they can reduce mechanical discharge noise. The most important function of custom suppressor wraps is that they mask the heat signature generated from the suppressor. The silencer tends to get excep- tionally hot after rapid fire shooting. Temperatures can reach up to five hundred degrees Fahrenheit within minutes, which is why it's not recommended to touch the suppressor after shooting. Two thirty round clips can reach temperatures of more than eight hundred degrees Fahrenheit. Touching the suppressor by mistake is easily done, the suppressor wrap reduces the risk of serious burns. Due to these extremely hot temperatures, heat waves form, also known as heat or optical mirages. A cover will hold things tighter in place or dampen the sound.
