Step 4 Determine Size and Selection Process of the Academy
Leadership Program Size • 128 students • 6th / 7th / 8th • 16 spots reserved for student council members
Student Selection Process • Meet with team leaders / ask each team to nominate 15 students based on selection process guidelines. • 90 students selected by teachers • 22 spots for students to apply / announced on morning news and explained in homeroom.
Leadership Program Structure • On-going Program all year • 1st Session - off campus - 5 hours - October • 2nd session (December) - conducted • in school Media Center - 2 hour sessions • 3rd session (February) - conducted in school • Media Center - 2 hour sessions • End of year Activity (May) - 3 hour sessions • Outside at track facility or school gym.
Process • Collect list of student nominations from team leaders. • Handout & Accept applications from interested students • Select students from applications • Meet with all eligible students • Explain Program • Hand out letter for parents

Workshop 1 – October 8:30 – 1:45 • Team Building Activities • Mini Leadership Activities Conducted off Campus
Team Building Activities Large group session – (1/2 your total number) 8 to 10 groups of students 2 hours in length • Use activities which provide an opportunity for group members to work together as a team and learn to value all the different members of the group. • Activities will help participants see the different strengths each team member posses and that it takes the entire team to be successful. • Activities should be fun and help pull the students together as a team.

Fox Buddy Program • Students in S.E.A.L.S. adopt a student in our FMD /MMD classroom. ( 2 S.E.A.L.S. to one ) • Escort to all school wide Pep Rallys and school wide Assemblies. • Take your Buddy to Lunch on scheduled days. (Halloween, Christmas, Valentine, etc.) • Exchange birthday cards, Christmas cards, etc.
Workshop 2 & 3December & February Goals: • How to listen and value the opinions of others. • How to work as a group utilizing each others leaderships skills. • How to reach a consensus. Total number of students divided into 3 - 90 minute sessions.

S.E.A.L.S. CHALLENGE DAY - MAY Divide Leadership Academy into 2 groups Assign students to Morning Group or Afternoon Group 2 ½ hour sessions 8:30 – 11:00 12:30 – 3:00 Once outside students were divided into 6 groups. Students rotated through 6 stations
