How to Succeed in Human Resources In a company, there are tons of different departments and different people that lead each one. You usually think of the C-level executives, which means CEOs, CFOs, COOs, CMOs, or whatever acronyms your company uses. I heard of CCOs in the entertainment industry, which is for creative. These are the big money parts of the company because they are into the money generating portions of the company, but there is a point where your company becomes large enough where you need some support staff that are not making money, but making sure that you are not losing money. People do not know much about what HR does, but here are some things to know about human resources. Hiring and Firing The first thing that you probably know HR from is where they are calling you in for an interview. Human resources departments are often in charge of hiring when it comes to large companies because there are procedures that must be followed and they are able to screen candidates and take a lot of that responsibility off the plates of people who are better serving the company by doing their jobs. HR vets resumes, interviews candidates, and usually presents a few of the
best to the boss for them to take over from there. In the reverse case, HR is also sometimes in charge of letting you go. They let you know all of the procedures most times and might also be the ones administering an exit interview when it is all over. Benefits One of the things that is great once you get in are the benefits that come with the job. HR might be in charge of finding the most attractive insurance packages and they can be the people that you go to in the even that there is a mistake. For the most part, they are just going to process all of your paperwork and you will do your business with the insurance company, but that is pretty nice to have. Protect Your Neck (And By “Your,” I Mean “The Company’s”) There is a bit of a conflict of interest when it comes to human resources. They are supposed to be the ones that you can go to when you have a dispute with a coworker. If you have concerns, you are encouraged to file a complaint with HR and they will take care of things from there. The problem is that human resources is employed by the company and they are there to serve the company. That means that they will not be your friend if something does actually happen. When you bring something serious up that human resources needs to flag for higher ups, it is not out of any kind of concern. Human resources is going to do whatever it takes to make sure that the company is protected from a lawsuit. It can feel like a lonely existence when you can’t go to HR, but you have other options. If something is truly criminal, you do not need HR to go to the police Source : https://rapichat.com/read-blog/2583
