What is Software? Software is the program and all related documentation and configuration data which is required to make these programs operate properly. Characteristics of software • Simple and well-designed numerical representation • Logic intensive • Cannot have partial completion • Design costs are more expensive
What is Project? A project can be complex task with a goal. So let’s us identify with by going through a number of example. In following which one of these are Projects Scene 1. A person or project team is responsible for replacing PCs in every 2 years old with the latest hardware and software. “Ongoing work, not a project work”
Scene 2. A team is working to produce analysis and design documentation for some analysis work that is required desperately. “End result not useful in itself. It’s a Sate “ Scene 3. You are assigned a task to examine the processes of a warehouse, and implement a more efficient approach that is cost effective to run and provides a better service. “No software, but a project however. “ Scene 4. Project Attributes Project, is a group of activities that need to be carried out in order to complete a set of objectives in a time limit with available resources. A project has three major attributes • Scope • Resource • Schedule
Scope Scope is the soul of any project. The scope of a project may be as complex as “Sending a man to the moon and returning him safely to earth” or something much simpler as in “Reading the chapter on Project Management”. In general, a complex scope is broken down into more manageable small tasks of activities to assist easier management.
What Is Management? Management is the process of organizing people and other resources to accomplish the goals of the organization. It is the practice of implementing and controlling the projects Management involves the
following activities: • Planning-deciding what is to be done. • Organizing- making arrangement. • Staffing-selecting the right people for the job. • Directing-giving instruction. • Monitoring-checking on progress. • Controlling-taking action to remedy hold-ups. • Innovating-coming up with new solutions. • Representing-liaising with users etc.
